New Film Highlights the Impact of the Pembrokeshire Community Hub
Community leaders and partners gather to showcase the importance of social value and community support.
Pembroke Dock, 16 September 2026 – A new film showcasing the transformative impact of the Pembrokeshire Community Hub was unveiled today at The VC Gallery, bringing together voluntary organisations, public sector partners, businesses, volunteers and community leaders from across Pembrokeshire.
Hosted by Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services (PAVS), the event celebrated the success of the Pembrokeshire Community Hub and explored the wider concept of social value. By asking ‘What Matters to You?’ the Community Hub and network of Community Connectors, make a significant impact on people’s lives.
The short film shows the significance of the Community Hub across the county, sharing authentic experiences from local residents, volunteers and staff. From community transport to food banks, volunteer run community spaces to help to get online, the film highlights the breadth of support available via the Hub and the team of Community Connectors. Rather than relying on professional actors, the film features members of the community alongside volunteers and PAVS staff, demonstrating the relevance of support in our community for everyone – young and old – across Pembrokeshire.
Speaking at the launch, Jess Bickerton, CEO of PAVS said:
“This film tells a powerful story about the impact of community action in Pembrokeshire. It highlights the extraordinary contribution of volunteers, community organisations and partner agencies in supporting people, strengthening communities and improving wellbeing across the county. We are incredibly proud to share these stories and celebrate the role of the Pembrokeshire Community Hub and our Community Connectors. Our social value impact report demonstrates that for every £1 invested in the Community Hub and Community Connectors, £4.17 of social value is generated. Moreover, our research has highlighted the importance of social value reporting, the role of PAVS’ expertise in supporting organisations to do this, as well as the invaluable role of the third sector in delivering social value.
The event featured contributions from Eleri Williams of Building Communities Trust, who discussed how the film and related work can help inform Welsh Government and other decision-makers about the power of community action. Rhian Bennett from Pembrokeshire County Council explored the growing importance of social value in public procurement and reflected on the origins of the Community Hub during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Attendees also heard from Marten Lewis of Bluestone Wales who described their journey of reporting on the social value that they deliver both through their Community Fund and in the course of their business activities.
Mark Jolly, Chair of The VC Gallery Board of Trustees, explained the range of activities and support that they deliver – social value in action.
Lisa Davies from Hywel Dda Health Board outlined how the film will be used to promote wellbeing and preventative health through the invaluable work of the Community Hub and Community Connectors.
Produced by Mother Goose film company, the film highlights how Pembrokeshire Community Hub provides a wide range of support: friendly advice over the phone, a What Matters Conversation with a Community Connector, links to activities and support across the county. Established through partnership working between PAVS, Pembrokeshire County Council and Hywel Dda Health Board, the Community Hub together with the network of Community Connectors, has become a trusted service that supports hundreds of people each month.
