Pembroke 21C - Foundry House

Anyone who has driven past Pembroke Commons recently will have noticed the large building opposite the foot of St Daniel’s Hill that has been undergoing refurbishment over the winter months.

Foundry House is Pembroke’s Community Centre and has not been upgraded since the 1960’s but with funding from the Welsh Assembly Government, the Big Lottery, Chevron Pembroke Refinery, Pembroke Town Council and Pembrokeshire County Council it is now a lovely modern community centre which is available for the whole community to use.

If anybody you are interested in volunteering for Pembroke 21C please call David on Tel 01646 680090.

Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust

'Fly High with the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust'

The Flying Boat Centre opened on June 27th 2009 within the former Royal Dockyard and has already attracted well over 10,000 visitors with tremendous feedback.

This represents an important and sustainable step in initiatives led by Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust to create unique visitor attractions focusing on the town’s remarkable connections with Britain’s Armed Services. The Centre is going from strength to strength and the volunteers play such an important part in the success of the centre. We have over 50 enthusiastic volunteers who actively support the project in so many ways (including the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust Dive Group).

The Centre with its well equipped workshop is open five days a week all through the year (Tuesday to Saturday, 10am – 4pm). It is unique to the UK, reflecting Pembroke Dock’s long links with military flying boats and especially the iconic Sunderland.

Volunteers take an active role in manning the centre (front of house/meeting and greeting and in the workshop). Other roles include outreach (including education) and archiving. We keep our volunteers regularly updated on progress and hold regular feedback sessions. Additionally, days out are organised by the management team.

Funding for the Centre has come from the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).

The world’s fourth surviving Sunderland lies in the Haven Waterway. Plans to raise Sunderland T9044 are gathering pace and conservation work on parts of the aircraft already recovered continue in the Workshop, for visitors to view.

For further information on volunteering in this exciting project, please contact Judith Davies on 01646 623425 or email judith.davies@sunderlandtrust.org.uk, www.sunderlandtrust.org.uk

Value Independence

‘Learn, enjoy and take away new skills’

The Company was founded in February 2008 to develop specialised provision for vulnerable people to meet their personal development, social and recreational needs.

There are three areas of work:

  • The Pathways Scheme

  • The Daytime Respite

  • Club Nights

The Pathways Scheme is a unique service for young people and adults who are disengaged or isolated from society as a result of either learning disability or other long term problems.

    • There are five pathways:

    • Self Discovery

    • Literacy and Numeracy

    • Healthy Living

    • Life Skills

    • Natural Environment

Each ‘Pathway’ involves activities and study but also enjoyment. Wherever appropriate, environment issues are emphasised as they relate to the different pathways. Support is given to set individual goals such as college courses, voluntary work and placements when the time is right. The Activity Centre is located in a rural setting which offers plenty of scope for working out doors. The basic charge for ‘Pathway’ sessions is £10 per hour.

Daytime Respite aims to be as interesting and good fun as Pathways and appropriate taps in to the resources of the Activity Centre. Each respite package its tailored to each individual’s circumstances and because needs vary so much there is no standard charge. Written quotations are provided before each package is agreed.

Club Nights are held on the third Saturday of each month at The Hive from 7-30pm to 10pm. The Club Nights are high popular and there is no need to register. Just turn up and enjoy the art workshops, games, music, pool/snooker, badminton, basketball and most importantly meet new people and have fun while finding out what else is going on in Pembrokeshire. Each session is £3 and carers are free.

All the activities offered by Value Independence are risk assessed and covered by insurance. Staff all have enhanced Criminal Record Bureau checks.  For more information call 01646 698169 / 07792693822 or email sam@valueindependence.co.uk
