Community
learning receives funding
The Step Project was launched
last week at the Pembrokeshire County Show. The project is a follow
on from the successful PET project and will enable communities across
Pembrokeshire to access free quality learning opportunities at a
local community venue near them.
One of the ways
that the project is expected to help enrich the lives of beneficiaries
and their communities through learning is by delivering a community-based
advice and guidance service about courses, careers, progression
courses, and referring to other agencies and learning opportunities.
The STEP Project
will also be supporting voluntary groups to use Pembrokeshire College
as a community resource and plans with Pembrokeshire WI and Young
Farmers are already in hand.
The STEP Project is funded
by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD)
and the Welsh Assembly Government and will be delivered by Pembrokeshire
College in association with Pembrokeshire County Council.

Learning
Zone at the County Show
If you're coming to the
County Show this year, then pay a visit to the Learning Zone on
Band Avenue . The Learning Zone is a "one stop shop" incorporating
all the training and educational choices in Pembrokeshire for adults
over 16 years of age. PAVS will be present as usual to give information
about courses for voluntary and community groups, as well as volunteers.
Everyone will be able
get advice about learning new skills and gaining qualifications
that can help in progressing careers or managing work better.
There will be a mixture
of demonstrations every day on the hour from 11am until 4pm. "This
year, we really have a great range of demonstrations from genealogy
to tips in interior design, and from willow weaving to growing plants
from cuttings," commented organiser, Keith Allen.
If you would like more
information please contact Louise at PAVS on 01437 769422
Pembrokeshire
Learning Network 2008 Learner Forum
The Forum brought together
learners participating in adult learning courses in Pembrokeshire,
and gave them the opportunity to feedback on their learning experiences.
The learners who participated
in the Forum were on courses run by a number of different providers,
who are part of the Pembrokeshire Learning Network (PLN). These
included Learning Pembrokeshire, Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary
Services (PAVS) and Pembrokeshire College . A number of those attending
were also taking part in courses provided by the U3A (University
of the 3 rd Age).
Members of the PLN are committed
to providing opportunities for learners to participate in the process
of developing their services. Learner Forums form an important part
of this; information gathered is invaluable in helping providers
to develop opportunities for the future.
