Learning Zone at the County Show – Your Choice, Your Future
If you’re coming to the CountyShow this year (16-18 August), then pay a visit to the Learning Zone on the corner of Main Avenue and Band Avenue. The Learning Zone is a one stop venue incorporating all the training and educational choices in Pembrokeshire for adults over 16 years of age.
Visitors will be able get advice about learning new skills and gaining qualifications that can help in progressing careers or even changing jobs. “The Learning Zone is always a great place to pick up information and ideas, for work or leisure. It’s a really good time to find out about courses starting in September as the new brochures will be out”, commented Coordinator, Louise Wilkinson.
There will be a mixture of demonstrations every day which will give people an opportunity to have a go at something new, with quizzes and competitions there will also be plenty to keep the children entertained. As well as picking up information about learning opportunities from local providers, and some from further afield, Careers Wales West will also be present if people want advice and support about careers.

Open Univeristy "Openings Programme"
Third sector organisations supporting out-of-work people on skills and employment programmes can now link their work to educational opportunities offered free-of-charge by the Open University.
The Open University in Wales is looking to develop community partnerships with voluntary organisations and social enterprises to support people on benefits and low incomes into education.
Development Officer for the Open University, Gayle Hudson, told WCVA: ‘Through our Openings Programme there are a range of courses available that have been developed especially for those new to studying, returning to education or people who may not have achieved any formal qualifications at school.
‘They are aimed at helping people get a taste of subject areas, develop learning skills and to build confidence. They are ideal progression routes from community learning to more formal education and could offer ideal progressions from projects like the Engagement Gateway and Intermediate Labour Market.
‘We are keen to work with local communities and third sector organisations to help raise skills and aspirations. We also may be able to offer free taster and information sessions.’
The Open University’s Openings Programme courses run for 20 weeks and start four times a year in September, November, March and June.

Wales Africa Community Links Programme
The programme supports and develops community partnerships between Welsh and African communities to enable them to work together to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. The overriding aims of the project are to provide communities with support, information, development expertise and grants to enable them to develop and expand community partnerships that are based on equity rather than aid and that produce partnerships that are sustainable and have a real impact on development and ultimately changing peoples lives both here in Wales and in Sub-Saharan Africa. The programme has been endorsed by the United Nations and partnered communities are able to apply for United Nations Gold Star Awards in 5 key development areas: Health, Environment, Livelihoods, Young People and Social Harmony. Currently there are over 120 community links working between Wales and Africa. We are currently supporting over 65 of them directly, who are delivering over 200 individual development projects across Sub-Saharan Africa.
