Learning
Champions Events
7th December 2007
A number of Learning Champions
attended the winter event held in the Bloomfield Centre in Narberth.
A number of learners received certificates and it is hoped at the
next event there will be even more to present. After a lovely festive
lunch, and Christmas cake, the Personal Safety session started.
The session was delivered by two of our colleagues from CAVS (in
Carmarthen) and was designed specifically for people who find themselves
working alone, or volunteering on their own. The session was very
successful and everyone learned something new.
8th December
2006
The third
and final Learning Champions event for 2006 was held on the 8th
of December in Careers Wales West in Haverfordwest. A festive buffet
provided by Jackie Pallit was enjoyed by all before the serious
business of the afternoon began. Jean Brown from Careers Wales West
gave an excellent and informative presentation on the Careers Wales
website careerswales.com
including the Learning Choices database of training courses available
throughout Wales. A quiz on the website was then held and prizes
given to the winner. All those who attended the event were able
to pick up a 2007 diary for their filofax and any new training brochures
that they did not already have. The afternoon was concluded with
2 festive games, starting with Cracker or Coal where participants
were encouraged to say what they did or did not like about being
part of the network for the results please click here.
The racing reindeer game proved difficult for participants as they
had to choose just one training course they were interested in and
move the corresponding reindeer forward on space, in the top 3 were
Introduction to Listening, Advice and Signposting, Mentoring Skills
and Handling Conflict.
23rd May
2006
The second
Learning Champions Evening was held during Adult Learners' Week
at the Haverfordwest Cricket club. The theme of the evening was
"Learning - Why Bother?" which looked into some of the
benefits of learning. Some people spoke about the positive benefits
that learning had made on their life. The "Yes but...No but"
game proved to be fun despite a confusing start, this game looked
at some of the barriers to learning and some of the ways learning
champions can provide a solution - you can do a lot with a bit of
knowledge.
15th March
2006
A Learning
Champions Social Evening was held at the Academy Restaurant, Pembrokeshire
College, the evening began with a delicious buffet prepared by Scholarest,
the cake went down particularly well!
After the
buffet there was a quick introduction about being a Learning Champion,
and the resource packs given out earlier in the evening. The activities,
which were enjoyed by all, included a Learning Derby, Web of Learning
and Learning Wall. The activities were designed to get some opinions
from the participants and were hopefully fun at the same time. The
evening concluded with a Learning Quiz.
